"bird" Armchair And Ottoman Set By Harry Bertoia For Knoll, C. 1960

Description:Les Merciers Gallery presents this great classic of American modernist design: the "Bird" armchair with its matching ottoman, designed by sculptor Harry Bertoia in 1952 for Knoll International.

A true technical and aesthetic feat, the structure consists of a latticework of welded steel wires, here in an elegant black finish. This high-back model features “shock mounts” that provide flexibility in the seat for absolute comfort. The set is covered with its original full cover.

Condition and Authenticity (Patina Report):The steel frame is in excellent condition. The main appeal of this piece lies in the evolution of its fabric: the original fabric has undergone perfectly uniform sun fading, giving it a magnificent pastel pink/powdery hue that is highly decorative. For purists, we note a tiny sign of wear (a micro-tear) on the rear edge of the backrest, attesting to its authenticity and history.
