The Les Merciers Gallery is proud to present a masterful collection of 20th-century French cabinetmaking: a complete living room set featuring the large S32 sofa (3-seater) and its matching S15 armchair, designed and crafted by master artisan and designer Pierre Chapo (1927–1987) in his own workshops in the 1960s.

Pierre Chapo is universally recognized for his furniture featuring minimalist lines that hint at a warm, brutalist aesthetic. This set is an iconic embodiment of his philosophy: a harmonious blend of modernist design with powerful architectural elements and traditional fine woodworking techniques.

The geometric structure of these chairs is crafted from solid elm, a fine wood whose grain is beautifully highlighted here. The framework bears Chapo’s unmistakable signature: exposed joints of absolute precision. The wide armrests, held in place by superb tension straps, frame generous seat and back cushions. The set is upholstered in its original thick brown leather, offering undeniable and remarkably inviting seating comfort. Both the S15 and S32 models are true staples of the Chapo catalog, perfectly blending aesthetic sophistication with functionality.

Condition and Authenticity (Transparence Galerie):This set is in absolutely remarkable original condition.

• Wooden Frames: The solid elm has been incredibly well-preserved over the decades. The frames are in superb condition, showing no damage, with only minimal and expected signs of wear.

• The leather: The back cushions are in fantastic condition for their age, with supple, full-bodied leather. In the interest of complete transparency, we note a few signs of wear and a beautiful patina of age on two of the seat cushions (visible in the photographs). These signs of wear, inherent to the piece’s history, in no way detract from the set’s elegance and attest to its vintage authenticity.
