Pierre COMBA was born in Nice in 1859. He died there in 1934. He moved to Paris in the early 1880s and enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts under the guidance of Jean Léon Gérôme. Upon returning to Nice, he was appointed official painter of the French Army and obtained permission from the General Staff to observe the maneuvers of the Alpine Chasseurs in order to depict them in their daily lives. He fully expressed his talent in the art of watercolor painting. The dimensions of the painting, including the frame, are 36.5 cm x 56 cm.
