Hood For A Religious Habit Made Of Gold Thread, Late 18th Century

A splendid liturgical cape hood (the removable back panel of a priest’s ceremonial cloak) dating from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries.
The center is richly adorned with the stylized monogram JHS (Jesus Hominum Salvator), surmounted by a cross and set within an imposing radiant halo entirely executed in raised gold thread embroidery.
The border, following the traditional shape of the cutout, features a delicate garland of plants and flowers embroidered with scrolls, roses, and foliage, complemented at the bottom by a stylized Anchor of Mercy.
The entire border is enhanced by a substantial and opulent fringe of gold-thread cannetille measuring 7 cm in length, perfectly preserved.
