19th-century Gilded Bronze Church Candleholder
This large candlestick, measuring 61 cm in height at the bowl and 68 cm at the tip, and weighing 2.050 kg, is imposing yet elegant.
Its long shaft, whose linearity is softened midway up by a bulge adorned with foliage, rises from a highly ornate tripod base toward an openwork crown supporting the tip.
In detail, the tripod base features, on all three sides, the same finely chiseled decoration depicting the façade of a church with three entrances flanked by columns and adorned with slender turrets at each corner.
The shaft, divided into three striated sections separated by a fringed garland, is richly decorated with Templar crosses or cross pattées—symbols of the Christian faith, divine protection, and the struggle against the enemies of the faith.
Finally, the crown—which supports the tip and is designed to catch the wax drippings from the candle—is decorated with acanthus leaves at the base and is largely openwork in its upper section.
Given its age, this candle holder is in very fine condition, and its gilding is still well-preserved. Depending on your preferences, it will serve as a beautiful and simple decoration for your home, add a mystical touch to your living space, or serve as an important piece in a chapel or place of contemplation.
