The shape of these two vases is unusual, as they are not round but square with rounded faces.
Furthermore, we are in the presence of a true pair and not two identical vases.
Each of the four faces has a different decoration, and the decorations are systematically facing each other. Surprisingly, despite the flat surfaces, the overall silhouette is ovoid.
The two vases are firmly set on a circular base circled in gold and decorated with a geometric frieze.
On each side, the figures posing in front of a mountainous landscape in orange tones are richly enhanced with gilding.
The same is true for the upper part where the gold highlights a scattering of red dots on a brown background and the geometrically decorated flat.
The handles on two opposite angles appear to be lion heads.
As on the thick rim of the neck, the wear in places of the gilding testifies to the regular use of the vases and adds a new touch of authenticity.
The interior is off-white and each piece bears under the base a mark in a red square and the probable mark of the artist.
It is impossible not to fall under the charm of this pair so atypical of the Satsuma production.
