Christofle Letter Tray, Pre-1935.

In the past, in large households, servants did not hand the mail directly to their employers but placed it on a tray.
The model we are offering is simple and elegant: rectangular, without handles, and simply decorated in the center with an oval of woven twigs from which a small sprig of bay leaves extends on either side.
The rim features the same delicate foliage design.
This tray is in excellent condition, with no silver loss on either the top or the back. There are very few micro-scratches, attesting to the piece’s minimal use.
It is neither too small nor too large, measuring 29.3 cm in length and 23.5 cm in width.
The clearly legible hallmarks indicate that this is a fairly old piece: the first one, a bee surmounted by a star and framed by the initials CC for Charles Christofle; the second one, a balance surmounted by four stars, with two branches below, framed by the initials CC, all within an oval inset in a rectangle.
These two hallmarks from the Christofle house predate 1935, the year in which the initials CC were replaced by OC for Orfèvrerie Christofle.
