Bathroom Set, Pitcher And Basin, Villeroy & Boch.
Just a bit of history...
The Villeroy & Boch factory is one of the jewels of German industry. For nearly two centuries, it has been one of the most renowned earthenware manufacturers in the world.
Surprisingly, it was born out of the 1836 merger of two thriving pottery companies—one founded by a Frenchman, Nicolas Villeroy, who settled in 1791 in Vaudrevange (the French name for Wallerfangen), and the other by a Luxembourger, Jean-François Boch, who settled in 1809 in Mettlach, a town in the Saarland and the company’s current headquarters.
The superb bathroom set we are offering bears the Villeroy & Boch Wallerfangen mark. This mark was used from 1874 to 1909, so it comes as no surprise that we are looking at a gem of Art Nouveau.
This IRIS model is richly decorated with the iris motif on both sides of the pitcher, with one side featuring a denser design and the other a lighter one.
Two lush irises are depicted on the bottom of the basin and on two of its sides. The designer had the brilliant idea of not centering the decoration on the bottom of the basin. This way, it remains visible when the pitcher is placed inside.
Delicate foliage motifs adorn the pitcher’s handle, the rim of its wide spout, and two sides of the basin.
The very elegant blue-gray hue is typical of the Art Nouveau period.
The enamel is creamy and has a beautiful sheen. The piece has no flaws, cracks, or chips.
How can one remain unmoved by the beauty of this rare bathroom set? It will look right at home anywhere in your home.
