Vietnamese "vase-lamp".

Artist: école Des Beaux-arts De Bien Hoa
This beautiful covered pot is not an incense burner, as one might initially think, but rather a vase-lamp designed to hold a lit lamp inside.
It is a creation of the Bien Hoa pottery factory, surprisingly founded by a French couple, Mr. and Mrs. Balick (Robert and Mariette), who were sent from France in 1923 to fill the positions of director and ceramics specialist at the Bien Hoa School of Fine Arts, roles they held until their retirement in 1950.
This vase-lamp is a creation from the second half of the 20th century, after the departure of the French managers, but remains very faithful to the distinctive style of the pottery.
A description can be found in the writings of a Vietnamese specialist:
"Bien Hoa ceramics are fired at high temperatures. Their coppery-green glaze, with its great diversity, evokes ancient objects unearthed from the ground. The beauty of Bien Hoa ceramics captivates collectors not only with its colors and their harmonies, but also with its simplicity and monochrome."
This text seems to have been written specifically for our item.
So, don't hesitate, treat yourself to an object as rare in its design as in its craftsmanship, which is in very good condition, only affected by a slight crack on the inner edge of the lid, without any aesthetic detriment.
Its elegance stems from the simplicity of its spherical shape and its decorative duality, equally at home by day and by night.
