Jacques Bouyssou, “the Port Authority Of Honfleur,” Oil On Canvas, 20th Century

Artist: Jacques Bouyssou
A beautiful painting by Jacques Bouyssou (1926–1997), depicting the Lieutenance, a historic bastion located at the entrance to the Vieux Bassin in Honfleur, Normandy. The scene captures the typical bustle of the harbor with its fishing boats and passersby on the pier.

Jacques Bouyssou follows in the tradition of the great Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painters. Here, his palette is particularly luminous, colorful, and sensitive to the way light reflects off the water.

Jacques Bouyssou was a renowned French painter, appointed Official Painter to the Navy in 1987; his work reflects the style of a creative and avant-garde era. Appraised by the Maréchaux firm.

Height: 65 cm (without frame),

History: Jacques Bouyssou, a French painter, was born in Honfleur in 1926 in the Calvados region and died in January 1997. Bouyssou studied at the School of Architecture and Fine Arts in Troyes and studied drawing under the sculptor Janin.

He moved to Paris and became a student of Othon Friesz and Lucien Simon at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. In 1973, Bouyssou was named “Official Painter of the French Navy.”

His works are housed at the Musée de la Marine in Paris.

He follows in the tradition of the great Impressionist painters of the last century and shares this message with us:

"Today, I know that there are things that cannot be learned: the gesture that conveys an emotion through line, form, and color. The stronger the emotional impact, the less control restrains the gesture... I paint what I see and what I am."
