The Port Of Collioure, Oil On Panel By Marcel Fournier (1900-1979), Dated 1968.
Oil on panel depicting a view of the port of Collioure on the Mediterranean with the Notre Dame des Anges church and the Saint Vincent chapel. This painting is signed Marcel Fournier on the back, located and dated 1968. A very colorful oil on hardboard panel, executed with a palette knife in a post-impressionist style. This reminds us that Collioure, a typical village on the Côte Vermeille, inspired a great number of painters such as Henri Matisse and Robert Dufy, who were at the origin of the Fauvist art movement at the beginning of the 20th century. Marcel Fournier (1900-1979) was born in Périgueux. He is known as a writer, an ardent defender of the Occitan language and culture; he was a member of the Société des Beaux-Arts de la Dordogne. He devoted himself to painting from a very young age, producing very colorful and sun-drenched works. He associated with painters such as Chaumont, Darnet, and also Daniel and Joussen, with whom he went on painting outings.
