Christophe Gabriel Allegrain (after) 1710/1795 "venus In The Bath" 19th Century Bronze Sculpture

Large bronze sculpture with brown patina representing "Venus in the Bath," an old proof after the marble statue commissioned from the sculptor Christophe Gabriel Allegrain (1710-1795) by the Marquis de Marigny and offered by Louis XV to his favorite Madame du Barry for her castle of Louveciennes. This bronze is signed on the terrace Allegrain, 1757 in relation to the date of the first sketch in terracotta which was presented to the sculptor's workshop. It was not until 1767 that the marble statue was presented at the salon and received then laudatory comments from Diderot, which made the reputation of this work and of the sculptor. This beautiful bronze, which we offer, is an old cast from the 19th century; it is presented on its original base in gilded bronze.
