"egyptomania" Clock Depicting The Allegory Of History, Clio, Circa 1830, Dartois - Charles X Period

A superb clock from the Egyptomania era, featuring the Allegory of History, represented by the Muse Clio wearing a laurel wreath, seated on the ruins of an Egyptian temple: a fallen obelisk at her feet, a pharaoh’s head to her left, and she holds a tablet of history in her left hand. 
Circa 1830, Charles X era.

Gilded bronze clock with a matte and glossy mercury finish; the muse’s body features a copper-colored patina. Superb bronze engraving by the bronze artist Jean-Edmé Dartois, known as Dartois père.

The movement, signed Dartois in Paris, features a guilloché metal dial, Roman numerals, and blued hands. 
Pierre-Victor Ledure (1783–1840?), a great French clockmaker trained by Ravrio the Elder, was the mentor of Dartois the Elder (died 1845).

The clock is of very fine quality and comes from a prestigious manufacturer. The gilding is in excellent condition. 

Key and gong included. Pendulum missing; movement requires restoration.
