17th-century Carved Wooden Panel
An oak panel with high relief depicting the opening scene of a bacchanal. A young woman with a bare body appears to be floating on the waves. She is surrounded by two tritons who have come to seduce her. One carries a basket of fruit, while the other plays the aulos. This is likely the central panel of a chest. The reverse side of the panel was ironed to make it as smooth as possible, so as not to risk damaging the objects that would be “stowed” inside the chest.
