18th-century Wooden Sculpture Depicting God The Father
A sculpture depicting God the Father seated on the clouds. In the Baroque style, this sculpture likely originated in Italy or in a valley in the Alps. The sculpture is split, as can be seen in a photo, but it may have been constructed from several planks, which made the artists’ work easier and prevented them from having to start over in case of a mistake or mishap. This sculpture still retains its beautiful polychrome paintwork, though it has some missing parts. The piece has been treated against wood-boring insects. It is missing a hand, a toe, and a detail on the crown.
