17th-century Engraving. View Of The Château De Vincennes

Artist: Pierre Aveline
A beautiful engraving depicting the esplanade in front of the Château de Vincennes on the forest side, bustling with a crowd of people and carriages.
Under Louis XIV, the building had already taken on the appearance we know today, but at that time it was isolated from Paris by a dense forest; a very small village, nestled against its walls, lay in front of the fortified entrance on the other side—which is not visible here.
Pierre Aveline (1656–1722), the artist behind this engraving, was simultaneously a print dealer, bookseller, and engraver in Paris, and produced numerous views of monuments in the Île-de-France region.
It is framed in a period Louis XVI frame, dowelled, in fair condition.
The engraving is in excellent condition, with slight watercolor coloration from its time.
