Rare Spode Felspar Porcelain Butterfly Handled Pedestal Bowl, C.1821

A rare English porcelain covered pedestal bowl made by the Spode factory in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, circa 1821.

Produced in Spode's Felspar Porcelain, introduced by Josiah Spode II in 1821, this elegant piece features exceptionally rare sculptural butterfly handles with the original pair surviving intact. The matching butterfly finial and the original factory-made ladle notch remain present. Decorated in the Chinoiserie taste, the bowl displays hand-painted Chinese figures, flowering trees and garden landscapes on a pale green ground. The interior is fully decorated with a central medallion, while the rims retain their original period gilding.

The underside bears the printed grey floral wreath backstamp reading Spode Felspar Porcelain.

Condition:

Excellent antique condition. Very minor wear to the gilding on one small area of the cover rim. Otherwise free from chips, cracks or restorations. Examined under UV light.
