Yörük Rug - Konya, Anatolia. Circa 1850. 170 X 105 Cm

The rug certainly shows visible signs of wear, and that is precisely what gives it its charm. A wide strip of cotton has been sewn onto all the edges as well as part of the central field. This keeps it secure and protected.
This is a rug featuring sacred Yörük motifs, originating from the Konya region in central Anatolia. It was made using the wool-on-wool knotted technique. The pile is short, reminiscent of ancient Caucasian rugs.
The Tree of Life motif is clearly visible in the central field, along with numerous stylized floral motifs.
The plant-based dyes exhibit remarkable purity. The color palette is very harmonious, with the alluring presence of a magnificent pale indigo blue here and there. Through this beautiful patina, the rug exudes a highly refined decorative quality. The piece’s authenticity and age are evident at first glance. Likewise, its fine, supple texture brings to mind certain antique tapestries.
Definitely not meant to be placed on the floor, but perfect for hanging on a wall against a white background, for example, or in a bedroom.
