Oil on canvas depicting the banks of the Sarthe in autumn, a boat moored at the water's edge beneath russet-leaved trees, an old dwelling standing out on the opposite bank, in a soft, hazy end-of-season light. This type of site, with its old buildings overlooking a bend in the river, corresponds to the way Mary Renard repeatedly depicted the Sarthe valley and the village of Saint-Céneri-le-Gérei, nicknamed the "little Norman Barbizon," where the artist exhibited a canvas titled "Autumn at Saint-Céneri-le-Gérei" as early as 1880.

Based in Alençon and a student of Paul Saïn, Mary Renard devoted most of his career to the landscapes of his native region, exhibiting regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he became a full member in 1894. He was also curator of the Alençon museum, where several of his canvases are now held.

The stretcher bears on the reverse the stamp of a Parisian canvas and colour supplier on rue Jacob, confirming the origin of the support.

The canvas is in good condition.

Öl auf Leinwand, die Ufer der Sarthe im Herbst darstellend, ein am Wasser vertäutes Boot unter rotbraun belaubten Bäumen, ein altes Anwesen, das sich am gegenüberliegenden Ufer abhebt, in einem weichen, diesigen Licht des ausklingenden Jahres. Dieser Ort, mit seinen alten Gebäuden über einer Flussbiegung, entspricht der Art und Weise, wie Mary Renard wiederholt das Sarthetal und das Dorf Saint-Céneri-le-Gérei darstellte, das "kleine normannische Barbizon" genannt, wo der Künstler bereits 1880 ein Gemälde mit dem Titel "Herbst in Saint-Céneri-le-Gérei" ausstellte.

Mary Renard, ansässig in Alençon und Schüler von Paul Saïn, widmete den Großteil seiner Laufbahn den Landschaften seiner Heimatregion und stellte regelmäßig im Salon des Artistes Français aus, dessen Vollmitglied er 1894 wurde. Er war zudem Konservator des Museums von Alençon, wo heute mehrere seiner Leinwände aufbewahrt werden.

Der Keilrahmen trägt auf der Rückseite den Stempel eines Pariser Leinwand- und Farbenhändlers aus der Rue Jacob, was die Herkunft des Trägers bestätigt.

Die Leinwand befindet sich in gutem Erhaltungszustand.

Olio su tela raffigurante le rive della Sarthe in autunno, una barca ormeggiata sulla riva sotto alberi dal fogliame rossastro, un'antica dimora che si staglia sulla riva opposta, in una luce morbida e velata di fine stagione. Questo tipo di sito, con i suoi edifici antichi che dominano un'ansa del fiume, corrisponde al modo in cui Mary Renard raffigurò più volte la valle della Sarthe e il villaggio di Saint-Céneri-le-Gérei, soprannominato la "piccola Barbizon normanna", dove l'artista espose già nel 1880 una tela intitolata "Autunno a Saint-Céneri-le-Gérei".

Stabilitosi ad Alençon e allievo di Paul Saïn, Mary Renard dedicò gran parte della sua carriera ai paesaggi della sua regione natale, esponendo regolarmente al Salon des Artistes Français, di cui divenne socio effettivo nel 1894. Fu inoltre conservatore del museo di Alençon, dove sono oggi custodite diverse sue tele.

Il telaio reca sul retro il timbro di un fornitore parigino di tele e colori di rue Jacob, a conferma dell'origine del supporto.

La tela è in buono stato di conservazione.
