Oil on canvas depicting an autumnal woodland scene, animated by large moss-covered boulders in the foreground and bare trees standing out against a hazy sky, a walker moving away along the sandy path that crosses the composition. The treatment of the rocks, the golden and brown autumn palette, and the low, late-day light place this work within the tradition of forest landscape as defined by the Barbizon School, particularly in views of the rocks of the Fontainebleau forest dear to Théodore Rousseau and Diaz de la Peña, a motif that continued to inspire numerous landscape painters into the late nineteenth century.

Painted in 1894, this canvas belongs to the generation of landscape painters who, at the close of the century, carried on the Barbizon legacy and the taste for the rocky sites of Fontainebleau, then highly prized among collectors of landscape painting.

Öl auf Leinwand, eine herbstliche Waldszene darstellend, belebt durch große moosbewachsene Felsblöcke im Vordergrund und kahle Bäume, die sich gegen einen diesigen Himmel abheben, mit einem Wanderer, der sich auf dem sandigen, die Komposition durchquerenden Weg entfernt. Die Behandlung der Felsen, die goldene und braune Herbstpalette sowie das flache Licht des späten Tages stellen dieses Werk in die Tradition der Waldlandschaft, wie sie von der Schule von Barbizon geprägt wurde, insbesondere in den Ansichten der Felsen des Waldes von Fontainebleau, die Théodore Rousseau und Diaz de la Peña am Herzen lagen, ein Motiv, das noch bis zum Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts zahlreiche Landschaftsmaler inspirierte.

1894 gemalt, gehört diese Leinwand zu jener Generation von Landschaftsmalern, die am Ende des Jahrhunderts das Erbe von Barbizon und die Vorliebe für die Felsformationen von Fontainebleau fortführten, die bei Sammlern von Landschaftsmalerei damals sehr geschätzt waren.

Olio su tela raffigurante un sottobosco autunnale, animato da grandi massi ricoperti di muschio in primo piano e da alberi spogli che si stagliano contro un cielo velato, con un passeggiatore che si allontana lungo il sentiero sabbioso che attraversa la composizione. Il trattamento delle rocce, la tavolozza dorata e bruna dell'autunno e la luce radente di fine giornata collocano quest'opera nella tradizione del paesaggio boschivo definita dalla scuola di Barbizon, in particolare nelle vedute delle rocce della foresta di Fontainebleau care a Théodore Rousseau e a Diaz de la Peña, un motivo che continuò a ispirare numerosi paesaggisti fino alla fine dell'Ottocento.

Dipinta nel 1894, questa tela appartiene alla generazione di paesaggisti che, a fine secolo, proseguirono l'eredità di Barbizon e il gusto per i siti rocciosi di Fontainebleau, allora molto apprezzati dagli amatori di pittura di paesaggio.

La tela è in buono stato di conservazione.
