Clément Quinton (1851-1921) - Sunset On A Stormy Evening - Oil
Oil on canvas signed "Clément Quinton" lower left, titled "Coucher de soleil, un soir d'orage" (Sunset on a Stormy Evening). The work depicts a vast plain at dusk: a turbulent sky, pierced with breaks of golden and pink light above the horizon, rises over a darkened countryside where a small team of animals can be made out. A composition at once powerful and sensitive, with fine handling and a twilight glow, characteristic of Quinton's art and his roots in the Barbizon School.
