Aucoc: Wax Seal Case Made Of Solid Silver And Vermeil, With A Guilloché Pattern And Enamel Finish. C1900 Seal
An exceptional and magnificent wax case made entirely of vermeil, guilloché-engraved and enameled.
The tubular case is guilloché-engraved with very fine ripples, enameled in a superb blue with a slight grayish tint. The top of the lid is also enameled over a radiating guilloché pattern.
The top, base, and opening are accented with friezes of ribbons and flowers.
The base of the case features a seal bearing the initials MC (?).
The case is hallmarked:
. Two boar’s head hallmarks indicating “solid silver since 1838” with a minimum fineness of 800/°°
. In full: A.Aucoc (the last “c” is poorly struck) for André Aucoc, a silversmith and member of a prestigious dynasty, active from 1887 to 1911
This is a superb piece, featuring magnificent guilloché work notable for its great finesse and its exceptionally elegant enamel. The contrast between the vermeil and the blue enamel accentuates its preciousness.
