Demaffey: Six Solid Silver Table Spoons, Fazy Family Coat Of Arms. 19th Century. Geneva
Artist: Henri Demaffey
A very interesting set of six 19th-century Swiss table spoons bearing the Fazy family coat of arms.
The spoons are silver, with a rimmed design and a superb applied coat of arms.
These arms belong to the Fazy family, established in Geneva since the early 18th century.
Among the illustrious members of this family was James Fazy (1794–1878), founder of the Geneva Radical Party and considered to have transformed Geneva, bringing it into the modern age.
The spoons are hallmarked:
. Demaffey in full, for the silversmith Henri Demaffey, active from 1843 to the 1890s.
. A hallmark with the number 3 for third-standard silver (800/1000) and initials, probably those of the assayer.
French import hallmark with a weevil for silver with a minimum fineness of 800/1000
Beautiful set of spoons, with significant historical interest due to the Fazy coat of arms, whose owner was a member of the family of this famous Genevan politician.
