Khorjin (bag) Qashqai. Persia. Circa 1900. 45 X 38 Cm
Khorjins are carrying bags that were once used by the nomadic peoples of Persia.
Most often—and this is the case here—they consist of a front panel made with a knotted stitch, while the back is woven, with both layers made of wool.
On the upper part of the front, the slit closure system is clearly visible, in which eyelets were used to securely fasten the bag’s opening. This section is woven and embroidered.
The front has a fairly short pile that reveals stylized motifs on a deep, saturated indigo blue background.
The back is woven extremely tightly in a succession of horizontal bands, again featuring this indigo blue in two distinct shades against a brown background.
The piece is in perfect condition.
Very early 20th century, circa 1920
Dimensions: 45 x 38 cm
