Khorjin (bag) Qashqai. Persia. Circa 1900. 62 X 50 Cm
Khorjins are carrying bags that were once used by the nomadic peoples of Persia.
Most often—and this is the case here—they consist of a front panel made with a knotted stitch, while the back is woven, with both layers made of wool.
On the upper part of the front, the slit closure system is clearly visible, with eyelets that securely fasten the bag’s opening. This section is woven and embroidered.
The front features a rather short pile that reveals stylized patterns against a deep, saturated indigo blue background. It also displays superb bluish sheen. This appearance stems primarily from the remarkable quality of the ultra-soft wool.
The back is woven extremely tightly in a series of horizontal bands featuring, once again, indigo blue, madder red, and ecru.
The piece is in perfect condition, and the closure system is intact.
