Kilim Mut - Taurus Mountains. Anatolia. Mid 20th Century. 120 X 85 Cm
Colorful, cheerful, lively kilims from the Mut region in southeastern Anatolia. These kilims are instantly recognizable with their "fishbone" motifs and typical harmony of hues. Often orange, always vibrant, another distinctive feature is that they have virtually no bangs. This is explained by their use as wall hangings or on the walls of nomad shades. Even on more recent productions, these characteristics have changed very little. The weavers have managed to preserve and perpetuate the cultural and authentic aspect of their art.
3 collones rise from the central field, separated by motifs that evoke the shapes of a comb, the same one used to pack the weft threads. These combs symbolize protection, forming impenetrable natural barriers.
Woven wool on wool.
Tones of red, orange, violet and dark brown.
Circa 1950 - 1960
Dim : 120 x 85 cm
