Circa 1860. Stamped “audot.” Rosewood Writing Desk With Coat Of Arms

The overall shape of this case is identical to those used by the silversmith Aucoc for his toiletries sets, with rounded copper reinforcements along the edges, designed to protect the interior from bumps during travel.
But here, this design was used to create a precious writing set.
The lid is adorned with a superb coat of arms engraved on brass, of impressive size.
The box is in need of restoration; the small tray holding the inkwell and powder compact (a classic removable feature on these boxes) is missing, and there is a slight crack on the lid and another on the bottom.
Despite these minor issues, it looks very nice as is, with its exquisite brass hardware and beautifully engraved coat of arms. (No key)
