Maffrash Shasaven. Persia. Circa 1880. 164 X 103 Cm
Originally, Maffrash were the largest carrying bags used by the nomadic peoples of Persia and the Caucasus.
Incidentally, they were used as baby carriages once the camp was set up.
Woven wool on wool.
The weaving is a true marvel—it has it all: extreme finesse, precision, and consistency.
The piece is light and supple.
Extremely fine and refined workmanship.
The colors are very soft and natural. The beautiful depth of the field lets a myriad of stars twinkle.
Late 19th century.
In perfect condition.
