More than a rug, this piece is a true narrative object, an open book representing all the culture and beliefs of the nomadic populations of the Caucasus.
Original to Kuba in Azerbaijan ( Caucasus ).
Woven and knotted wool on wool in the traditional manner. One of the most remarkable aspects of this Caucasian is the richness and diversity of its motifs.
3 large octagonal medallions in the central field each feature eight-pointed stars typical of this wonderful production region. Multiple crosses, rosettes and ram's horns. Most of the motifs are symbolic of protection and the cosmos.
The main borders are sublime. A succession of angular meanders known as the Greek key. Foliage on the outer border.
Many animal motifs too.
The overall effect is one of beauty.
The hues are equal to this rich composition. Various indigo blues in different concentrations, turquoise, midnight blue.
Red ochre, bottle green, khaki, straw yellow, ivory.
Numerous abrash, especially on the blues.
