A beautiful three-piece mantel clock set in finely chased and gilded bronze, commissioned by Henri-Louis Riondet in the late 19th century, in the purest Louis XV "Rocaille" style.
This prestigious set comprises a table clock and a pair of matching five-light candelabra.
The clock features an exuberantly asymmetrical and undulating structure, richly decorated with stylized shell motifs, flowing acanthus leaf scrolls, and openwork reticulated designs.
The circular dial displays Roman numerals for the hours inscribed in blue enamel on a white enamel background.
The movement is signed by the famous Parisian watchmaker Samuel Marti et Cie, as well as Mr Henri-Louis Riondet, director of the Magasins du Comptoir Général, a renowned Parisian jewelry and watchmaking house. Dial signed: "H.Riondet/ Comptoir Général" - Movement numbered: 13547 and stamped on the plate: "ComptoirGénéral/H.Riondet/ 9 Bd Poissonnières/ Paris" - Watchmaker's stamp: "Samuel Marti et Cie, Silver Medal 1889", master watchmaker listed in Tardy, Dictionary of French Watchmakers.
The Candelabra: Rest on a robust tripod base with coordinated decorations, from which rises a sculpted shaft which gives rise to five sinuous light arms in the form of flourishing plant branches. Each arm terminates in richly chased candle holders and bobeches.
Original mechanism, with hour and half-hour striking on an antique bell .
