A splendid pair of lidded baluster-shaped vases (cassolettes), French Manufacture , 19th century, beautifully crafted in the purest Louis XVI style.
Each piece is carved from a beautiful polychrome breccia marble with white hues, veined with pink and purple, offering a striking contrast to the rich bronze trim.

The pieces feature chiseled and gilded bronze decorations of remarkable craftsmanship:
- The Handles: Shaped like superb cornucopias ending in stylized eagle necks, holding in their beaks rich garlands of flowers and fruits that adorn the body.
- The Central Band: Adorned with a wide gilded bronze band centered by two large mascarons depicting winged heads of Mercury, surrounded by leafy scrollwork.
The Spandrels and Base: The neck is topped by a removable gadrooned lid ending in a pine-cone-shaped knob. The acanthus-leaf base rests on a fluted pedestal, which in turn is mounted on a quadrangular, chamfered base encircled by a bronze band
