Louis XVI Cylinder Desk In Mahogany And Gilt Bronze, 19th Century
Important mahogany cylindrical desk in the Louis XVI style, circa 1860.
Superb and important Louis XVI style mahogany cylinder desk with front opening, featuring 3 drawers in the upper section, 4 drawers in the lower section, and a roll-top cylinder. The cylinder reveals 3 drawers and 3 compartments, as well as a removable writing surface covered in green leather, gilt-tooled with gold leaf wheel decoration.
On each side of the desk are pull-out writing slides, also covered in gilt-tooled green leather.
The top is made of white marble veined with grey, surrounded by a pierced gilt brass gallery. Richly inlaid with gilt brass in all grooves, drawer frames, side panels, and the rear panel of the cylinder, this desk is decorated on all sides.
All drawer locks and the cylinder mechanism are in working order, and the keys are included. The desk stands on four tapered and fluted legs ending in gilt brass sabots.
A very fine and impressive statement piece. Work from the mid-19th century.
