An exceptional zoomorphic "Dumb Waiter" (or "silent servant" / "torch bearer") from the late 19th century, crafted in the characteristic style of the Black Forest (a style typical of the Brienz region in Switzerland).
The sculpture in the round is entirely hand-carved from solid wood, featuring a superb dark patina that realistically mimics the movement and texture of the animal’s fur. The subject depicts a bear standing proudly on its hind legs, captured in a lively, naturalistic pose with its mouth open.
