Important Crucifixion Group – 18th Century
The Galerie Le Jardin Des Moines presents a polychrome and gilded Baroque wooden group. Christ is no more.
At the foot of the Cross, Mary, Magdalene, and John mourn him, along with his beloved disciple, the sole apostle at that moment. Grief-stricken and with his hand on his heart, John shields the Virgin with his hand, "for at that time Mary, the mother of Jesus, was entrusted to him" (John 19:27). Our three figures stand on a scrolled base.
It measures 97 cm high, 33 cm long, and 19 cm deep. In used condition, note some paint loss, glued fingers, and the presence of old, inactive wormholes on the back.
