Imposing Pair Of Altar Angels – 18th Century
In wood carved in the round, polychromed and gilded, these two angels facing each other are imposing. They offer a beautiful presence, standing on one leg, they stretch out their arms in a gesture of offering. They could have, at the time of the temple of Jerusalem, protected the tablets of the law!
A work from the end of the 18th century, placed on wooden bases from a later period representing the cloud, a sign of His presence. The terrace on which it rests is an octagon, taking up the number of Christ, the 8 which has neither beginning nor conclusion
A piece appraised by Madame Laurence Fligny
