Jean Audran, After Rubens – Henry IV Ponders His Future Marriage – Chalcography Workshop Of The Louvre
An important etching and burin engraving titled “Henry IV Deliberates on His Future Marriage,” created by the famous engraver Jean Audran (1667–1756) after a drawing by Jean-Marc Nattier, which in turn was based on the famous painting by Peter Paul Rubens belonging to the Cycle of Marie de Médicis.
The print depicts Henry IV receiving the portrait of Marie de’ Medici, surrounded by allegorical and mythological figures, while Jupiter and Juno approve of this union, which is destined to ensure peace in the kingdom.
