A. L. Mechain (20th Century) – House In The Woods By The Water – Oil On Canvas, Mounted

A very captivating oil on canvas mounted on panel, signed “A. L. MECHAIN” in the lower left corner.

The artist depicts a house with tiled roofs, almost hidden behind large trees, on the edge of a body of water whose surface reflects the greens, blues, and highlights of the landscape.

The painting is particularly captivating due to its textural quality and the freedom of its brushwork. The tree trunks are rendered with vigorous brushstrokes, while the vegetation in the foreground consists of a multitude of small green, blue, and yellow brushstrokes. The treatment of the reflections lends great depth and freshness to the composition as a whole.

The work is preserved in its original molded wooden frame, which has some missing sections of its ornate decoration—a feature that fully contributes to its charm.

A few small areas where paint is missing, particularly on the roof and the building, are visible and noted in the photographs. The frame also shows some wear and missing sections due to its age. This in no way detracts from the depth of this oil painting. The work is sold as is.
