"Antique Engraving – Chalcography Of The Louvre After Pierre Paul Rubens (1577-1640)"
The Lion City Goes to Meet the Queen” After Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) Engraved by Gérard Duchange (1662-1757) after a drawing by Jean-Baptiste Nattier (1678-1726) Elegant engraving published by the Chalcographie du Louvre, with dry stamp “Musée du Louvre – Chalcographie”. This composition, after Rubens, depicts the allegory of the city of Lyon paying homage to the Queen. A chariot drawn by lions advances majestically, surrounded by mythological figures: Jupiter and Juno seated among the gods, cupids carrying torches, and an aerial procession celebrating the sovereign. A sumptuous allegory, typical of Rubensian Baroque, it exalts royal power and civic harmony through a symbolic language where mythology is placed at the service of history.
