Object description :

"François Crabit (20th Century) (1971-2024) Mixed Media On Paper – Signed"
Superb abstract composition by François Crabit, playing on soft and subtle shades of green, ochre and orange. The artist offers here an atmosphere that is both mineral and vaporous, where geometric shapes and delicate textural effects blend together. Signed François CRABIT -99- At the bottom right, there is a handwritten dedication: "For Jacques Vives, a lasting friendship", giving this piece an intimate and unique character. Work framed under glass, double-tone wooden frame (mahogany and honey), in excellent condition. Secure shipping: careful and protected shipping, with insurance included. Only by Cocolis or special transport. François Jean Daniel Crabit was born on October 9, 1950 in Caudéran (Gironde) and died on April 14, 2024 in Ploubalay (Côtes-d'Armor). He studied in Paris at the Penninghen School after a varied academic career in the South West, then worked in advertising, notably at Publicis, before fully embracing his artistic vocation. Beginning of his artistic career At the same time, he worked in various jobs, sometimes as a night watchman, while drawing tirelessly until decisive encounters – notably with Michel Kellermann and the gallery owner Caroline Corre – allowed him to exhibit in galleries. Full recognition From the end of the 1980s, he devoted himself entirely to his art, between solo exhibitions (Paris, Brussels, Geneva, several cities in France) and distinction in the art world. Settling in Brittany In 2015, he settled in the small village of Plessix-Balisson in Brittany, and drew new inspiration from the specific light of the Emerald Coast. Favorite materials Dry pastel, colored pencils, charcoal, graphite, black stone… so many materials that he combines with subtlety, gradually extending from paper to canvas around the year 2000 (sometimes enriched with collages) Crabit paints the intimate: familiar interiors, folds of an abandoned sheet, suspended light of a morning, small everyday objects. His work, without characters, suggests a silent presence. “I like to highlight things that no one notices”. His works often evoke “stolen moments” and “Breton escapes”, with a touch of gentle nostalgia. Poetic atmosphere The exhibitions he held in Brittany often had evocative titles: The poetry of everyday life, The atmospheres of François Crabit… they are an opportunity to highlight the dreamlike, delicate character of his painting.
