Antique Sun Mirror In Carved, Gilded, And Polychrome Wood – Circa 1930–1950
A highly decorative antique sun mirror made of carved, gilded, and polychrome wood, featuring an elaborate radiating design that alternates between points, flames, and stylized motifs.
The composition is enlivened by a beautiful alternation of gilding and sections painted in a blue-gray tone, giving the piece great depth and character.
The central circular mirror is surrounded by a carved frieze and features beveled glass, a high-quality detail that underscores the care taken in its craftsmanship.
The reverse side reveals a traditional construction consisting of several carved and assembled wooden elements. Wear on the gilding reveals the underlying red ground in places, while the patina, old cracks, and signs of age attest to the object’s age.
Probably a Spanish or Italian piece from the first half of the 20th century, in the Baroque style.
