A beautiful Aubusson wool tapestry, entitled “Bord de l'eau” (Water's Edge), published by the Parisian firm Robert Four, 41 rue de Richelieu, Paris. This horizontal composition depicts elegant greenery enlivened by birds, in the spirit of the grand decorative designs of the 17th century. The refined decoration of abundant vegetation, a river, and stylized birds is in the tradition of classical French tapestries. A mid-20th-century (circa 1950–1970) Aubusson workshop piece, woven on a low-warp loom. The reverse shows the characteristics of a hand-woven workshop tapestry. The original label on the back reads: “Continuation of an earlier 17th-century weaving – off the loom.” Publisher: Robert Four, Paris. Dimensions: Length: 170 cm Height: 86 cm. Very good overall condition. Fresh wool, excellent drape. Protective lining on the reverse and hooks.
