"Augsburg 18th Century Sterling Silver Shaker "
This 18th century solid silver sprinkler is a fine example of period silverwork. 17.5 cm high, it has an elegant shape inspired by the neoclassical style. Baluster-shaped with a decoration of laurel garlands, flowers, acanthus leaves, snakeskin and gadroons at its base. The cap has a bayonet closure with the same type of motifs. Detailed description: • Material: Solid silver, with a patinated shine that testifies to its age, the hallmark of the city of Augsburg indicates a manufacture between 1780 and 1784. • Structure: It rests on a hexagonal pedestal decorated with chiseled motifs. • Decoration: Its ovoid body is richly decorated with garlands and floral motifs in relief, separated by vertical bands with refined details. • Lid: Removable and openwork with perforations, it is topped with a gadrooned decoration typical of the period. • Style: The garland patterns and symmetrical shapes recall the Louis XVI aesthetic, characteristic of the late 18th century. This sprinkler was used to sprinkle sugar or spices on dishes and desserts. Its finely executed chiseling work and harmonious balance make it a precious and decorative piece.
