Charming old chromolithograph mounted on canvas, depicting a lively romantic landscape: river, castle, sailboats, forests and figures in a peaceful and luminous setting. Signed Hermann Bennekenstein (1830–1890), a German painter known for his picturesque compositions and views of idealized landscapes. The scene comes from a polychrome chromolithograph from the 19th century, mounted on canvas and then hand-enhanced in places, notably in the foliage, water and certain figures. This type of production, sought after at the end of the 19th century, combines decorative refinement and quality of execution. – Work only: 79 x 58 cm – With frame: 86 x 65 cm Molded wooden frame with gold and green fillets, in a Napoleon III / late Empire style. The canvas has been recently cleaned; areas reveal the fragility of the pictorial surface, typical of these varnished or enhanced old prints.
