Florence - Third Quarter Of The 16th Century - Corpus Christi In Fire-gilded Bronze

A splendid Christ figure in fire-gilded bronze, from the Florentine school, dating to the third quarter of the 16th century.
The casting of this splendid Christ figure is solid and features realistic modeling executed with great attention to detail.
In this regard, it is worth noting the cold-chiseled detailing of the loincloth and the face, where the beard and hair are rendered with extremely fine chisel strokes.
The serene and resigned expression in death is conveyed by the gentle tilt of the head and the half-closed eyes.
The back is also meticulously crafted, conveying just how important it was to endow the object with a dignity that was more than merely superficial: such attention to detail was a testament to the prestige of both the patron and the workshop that produced it.
In 16th-century Florence, there were many foundrymen and many sculptors of the highest caliber, and this sculpture can be counted among the finest works of this flourishing historical period.
The (original) gilding is worn in places, as one would expect from a work of this historical period and devotional purpose.
Two fingers on the left hand appear to be broken halfway down; the small scratches and dents on the surface do not detract from the enjoyment of this precious object.
Dimensions: 14 cm (head to feet) x 14 cm (hand to hand)
