Puiforcat: Exquisite Solid Silver And Vermeil Dessert Set, “ferrure” Model. 19th Century
A rare design by Puiforcat for this dessert service.
It includes a fork, a spoon, an openwork scoop, and a serrated scoop, all made of solid silver.
The scoops are skillfully pierced to form interlaced patterns reminiscent of door or gate fittings. They are topped with heraldic roses.
This openwork design extends halfway down the handles, which join the bowl in a multilobed motif centered on a rose.
The ends of the scoop and spoon are richly openworked and engraved.
This design is featured by David Allan in his book on 19th-century French tableware and cutlery.
Each spoon is hallmarked:
. Minerve 1st hallmark from before 1973 for 950/°° silver
. EP with a knife, indicating the hallmark of Emile Puiforcat, active from 1857 to 1883.
A superb and rare dessert service, featuring a unique design requiring an incredible amount of re-engraving work.
