Three-legged French Chocolate Pot With A Crowned “r” – Cut Copper, 18th Century
Artist: Art Populaire
A lovely 18th-century three-legged chocolate pot, a relatively rare piece, entirely shaped by hammer.
It rests on three legs of the “crow’s foot” type, adorned with cut-out clasps.
Spout is built separately, while side handle, elegantly turned from wood, is secured by a beautiful riveted clasp.
The lid, mounted ona cut-out hinge, features a shell-shaped thumb rest.
On centre is a rotating stopper that allows a strainer to be inserted.
This is a beautiful piece, particularly elaborate, combining functionality and highcraftsmanship.
Body is stamped with the“R” hallmark crowned with a wreath, attributed to Louis XV period. This hallmark, likely from the coppersmiths’ guild, guaranteed quality of craftsmanship.
Good overall condition: no holes, no dents; there is an old tin repair to hinge. A simple polish will restore it to its full luster. Height: 23 cm, Width:19 cm.
