Reliquary Frame Of Saint Veronica And The Veil Of Christ, Tyrol, 18th Century
Carved and gilded wooden reliquary frame in the Rococo style, Tyrol, 18th century. In the center is a finely executed watercolor depicting Saint Veronica before an altar crucifix with the Veil of Christ (Vera Icon). An angel holding a scroll inscribed with “Vera Icon” refers to the Veil of Christ. The watercolor is surrounded by relics of saints and martyrs, as well as silver-thread trimmings, embroidery, and convent-made floral decorations.
Inscriptions on the relics:
- S. Felicitatis M. – Saint Felicity, martyr of the early Church.
- S. Felicis M. – Saint Felix, martyr.
- St. Mamantis M. – Saint Mamant, martyr of the early centuries of Christianity.
- St. Amandi M. – Saint Amand, martyr.
Several wax seals preserved on the reverse, as well as the original fastenings, attest to the ecclesiastical authentication of the reliquary.
