Maison Henry Dasson (Paris 1825 - 1896) - Double gilt bronze inkstand.
20 x 12 x h 8 cm.
Finely chased and gilt bronze, with double-layer glass inkwells in ruby and opaque white. Rocaille taste.
Signed and dated on the reverse: «Henry Dasson 1879».
The inkstand belongs to the production of Henry Dasson, one of the most accomplished Parisian bronziers of the second half of the nineteenth century, celebrated for the quality of his chasing and for his faithful reinterpretation of French eighteenth-century styles. The body is entirely in chased and gilt bronze in the Rocaille taste, with the top modelled as a cartouche enlivened by asymmetric scrollwork, foliage, and curving ornament. Two double-layer glass inkwells in ruby and opaque white are set into the upper surface. The piece bears the signature and the date 1879 on the reverse, confirming both its authorship and its precise chronological placement within the maison's period of greatest activity.
