A pair of walnut benches, entirely carved by hand, attributable to a workshop in northern Italy during the 17th century. The shaped backrest features a broad composition of symmetrical double scrolls with pierced carved friezes, culminating in a central shield-shaped cartouche. The structure rests on shaped lateral uprights with bases on moulded plinth, connected by carved stretchers. The surfaces retain traces of decoration with vegetal motifs executed in carving and pyrography. The pair is suited to a prestigious furnishing context, consistent with the typology of 17th-century noble or ecclesiastical seating from the Lombard-Venetian area.
Condition report: Generally good state of conservation, with surface wear consistent with age.
