18th Century - Wooden Sword With Gilded And Silver-plated Details
An exceptional 18th-century decorative rapier, made in central Italy, entirely of carved wood.
The blade is silver-leafed, while the hilt and grip are gilded with pure gold leaf.
Both parts retain their gilding in excellent condition and show no defects whatsoever, which is extremely rare for objects of this kind.
Note the quality of the twisted carving on the hilt’s shaft and the condition of the gilding, which in some places reveals the underlying preparatory layer.
A wonderful piece on its own, but ideal for complementing a sculpture or a piece of furniture.
